7.20.18 NEWSBOYS UNITED TOUR BLOG (NUMERO 12)
The last few weeks have been a busy one for the Zealand crew, as we flew directly from Houston, TX on July 1st to Indianapolis for Church of God’s International Youth Conference, where the band led worship for 5,000 kids from all over the states.
While in Indiana, some awesome new friends brought Phil an amazing gift of a golden Fender Stratocaster. The guitar holds sentimental value as the original owner has since passed away and was being gifted to Phil to continue the guitar’s journey with Zealand. So sweet!
From Indiana, we left for Biloxi, MS for a weekend leading worship for Beach Camp, which featured messages from our very own Phil & Heather Joel. Our weekend was spent leading worship, hanging with youth, and hanging on the beach. The conference was a nice change of pace from our usual Newsboys United schedule where we set up and tear down every day. It was a nice treat to be set up on stage for more than just a few hours and also play some Zealand tunes that we aren’t able to play the NBU tour. It felt right!!
Biloxi, MS took us directly to Waterloo, IA, where we drove 17 hours straight in a 15 passenger van from the gulf of Mexico straight to the heartland. The 15 passenger van is a far cry from the Prevost tour bus, but we embraced our humble vehicle and actually had an amazing trip filled with a variety of music and chatting. Sometimes the journey is just as fun as the destination!
In Iowa, we spent the week with our friends, TeenServe, which consisted of 100+ youth from all over the midwest coming to Waterloo to serve the community through painting, fixing homes, and bringing the simple truth of “loving your neighbor” to Waterloo.
As a band we spent the week leading worship each night for the gatherings’ time of teaching and worship. We’re thankful for getting to lead worship at 7 years of TeenServe!!
This week has the band back with the Newsboys United Tour playing in Wilmington NC, Aiken SC, Savannah GA, and Panama City FL.
We look forward to our last few weeks of the summer tour with Newsboys United!!
See you out there,
